Profile

Hi! My name is Kenneth. My origin is Hong Kong and lived for 16 years. I've come to New York City to study since 2001 (the year of 911) as a high school student. Although I still love to live in Hong Kong, I am familiar with New York City now. Fun! Fun! Fun!

Working

In my life time, I've worked on many different levels of career and jobs. My first job in New York is handing out flyers for a furniture company. After a while they've hired me as a furniture assembly and delivery guy in there. Hot summer, rainy windy days and icy winter mean nothing to me and won't bother my work after working on that job. As I've grown up and started my college, I've joined the federal work-study program and start my first company job as data entry intern. Throughout the college years, I've also worked for taking survey for New York MTA and chinatown private bus services. This reminded me I don't have a great schedule on eating lunch during works... same as I were working in a restaurant for couple days.

Sum up all these years I've hard worked, I am proud of my career at this moment. I am currently working as a web developer in Lifexpress Consulting company. We are working for SONY/ATV Music Publishing about all the audio and video licensing materials within the industry. Estimating 10 million USD spent on the project, tough tasks of course are assigned to everyone including me, as a result pushing my technical skills in programming. As working in the company, I've improved my communication skill in great steps. Every time I cross by or looked from other places to the Empire State Building, it reminds my work in these years. Really proud of myself!

Pica3

Summer 2008, my friends and I was bored and started our freelance business (Pica3). Of course you know starting a business is much tougher than just do a msn program. Communication, management and technical knowledge were a mess that half year. As we went through all the steps to create our first project Airway Airline demo web site, I've learned a lot for doing business and planning. Once again realize advanced in the industry knowledge is even more important than have a great programming skills. Just looking into the PC monitor may not be the best way to accomplish a task. Read books, ask when have question, reporting in the meetings are also important. Now I am still work for freelance after my 9am - 5pm job at night.

Business vs Designer vs Developer

I understand that there are gaps and conflicts between these people. As a business guy, I go with the principle "client is always right", although I don't like the final design at all as a designer. SImilarily as a developer, I always blame on those designer why make things so complicated but not functional. As programmer, I don't care about how the design looks like but just whether it is functional. Traits are keep changing back and forth in my mind to meet a balance between them. Things will be come the best as verify the compliance of these areas. However, ya, I am a programmer!
